Llerem Illinois is proposing a second craft marijuana growing facility on the 600 block of East Hickory Street in Streator. The site currently serves as a parking lot for school buses.

Llerrem Illinois has submitted an application to open another craft grow marijuana facility in Streator — this time at the corner of Hickory and Everett streets, stretching most of the 600 block of East Hickory Street.

Llerrem Illinois has already assisted John and Joe Florist owners Craig and Jodi Bodznick in their effort to obtain a grow facility at their West Main Street location, which recently received City Council approval for a special use permit.

Streator City Engineer Jeremy Palm said Llerem Illinois plans to open a 25,000 square-foot facility to grow medicinal marijuana at 603-611 E. Hickory St., which currently operates as a bus lot.

Palm said according to the application, the facility would operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day and employ about 10 people.

Paul Magelli, a co-CEO at Llerrem Illinois, told the Plan Commission at a prior meeting the company’s intention is to use Streator as a base for its Illinois operations, which involves a several million dollar investment and bringing more jobs to the community.

The special use permit request will be reviewed by the Plan Commission 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, for recommendation to the City Council. The March 10 meeting is open to the public at City Hall, 204 S. Bloomington St.
